Happy first birthday Devlogged! Back in September 2012, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the blog. I just knew I wanted a place to think about my experiences as a professional dev. So far, I’ve really enjoyed blogging — it’s kept me motivated about my personal projects and helped me to have perspective. I’m looking forward to another year of blogging and seeing where this thing goes:)
Also, farewell AWS free tier, I hardly knew ye. Now that my year of free hosting is up, I’ve switched the blog to a reserved instance to lower my hosting costs; I’ve prepaid for a year of continuous service on a micro instance, rather than paying the higher on-demand rate. Here’s a breakdown of the cost difference:
|Costs||Reserved Rate||On Demand Rate|
|EBS Cost/Year for 20 GB||$24||$24|
|Total Annual Hosting Costs||$129||$199|
Update 20140121: The prices above reflect AWS pricing at the time the post was written. AWS changes pricing all the time, so your mileage may vary.
